OB Harbor Homelessness Documentary

At Harbor OB we have had a series of brief meetings in order to prepare for a film we want to do regarding homelessness in Ocean Beach and how the church can respond. We have met on May 13 and May 27 to prepare for our documentary, and have made signifant progress.

June 21, we started filming the documentary about homelessness in OB. We split up into two teams, each led by a filmer, either Jason or Kyle. We filmed homeless folks if they were willing to be filmed, and asked them questions to better understand their needs, how they ended up in the streets.

Eventually, we want to put together all the footage, make a film, and then show it to all the Harbor congregations. After, we want to do a question and answer lecture about the film, and action plan for how our churches can help homeless, based on their responses from the film.

We hope to be the hands and feet of Christ by serving the voiceless, through this film.

"The Rescue" Event

Matt from Harbor OB Church holds a "Rescue" sign!!

On April 25, 2009, in over 100 cities across the world, over 70,000 people total, gathered together to be a voice for the child soldiers in Uganda. We had a large number of Harbor OB church members go to this event, and stay out overnight in Embarcadero Marina, downtown! There were over 1000 people at the San Diego event!! We hope to raise our government's level of involvement in bringing to trial Joseph Kony, the leader of the LRA, who has been kidnapping and forcing the children to be soldiers for 23 years now!!!

"The Rescue" Screening

On April 15, we screened a Uganda aid nonprofit named "Invisible Children's" video, "The Rescue." This movie documents the child soldiering in Northern Uganda. We showed this film at Harbor OB Elementary, and about 50-60 people came!! It was a great success!!

The Purple Palace on Easter

Trip to Mexican Orphanage- 4.11.09
The 11th of April, about 8 of our church members went to the TJ Orphanage known as “The Purple Palace.” It was an amazing trip- we held an Easter egg hunt and explained to the kids what Easter was, and the tradition of the egg hunt. There are 100 kids who are orphans living at the "Purple Palace." It is an incredible place started by Connie and Tyler- amazing missionaries. Afterward, we indulged in some good old Mexican tacos afterward!

OB Kite Festival- March 7, 2009







March 7, 2009. Harbor OB Mercy Ministries helped lead a children’s carnival at the OB Kite Festival. This was our first structured “Mercy Ministry” event. Went very well, had about 12 people from the church participate. Over 200 community members came out to the event!
