"The Rescue" Event

Matt from Harbor OB Church holds a "Rescue" sign!!

On April 25, 2009, in over 100 cities across the world, over 70,000 people total, gathered together to be a voice for the child soldiers in Uganda. We had a large number of Harbor OB church members go to this event, and stay out overnight in Embarcadero Marina, downtown! There were over 1000 people at the San Diego event!! We hope to raise our government's level of involvement in bringing to trial Joseph Kony, the leader of the LRA, who has been kidnapping and forcing the children to be soldiers for 23 years now!!!

"The Rescue" Screening

On April 15, we screened a Uganda aid nonprofit named "Invisible Children's" video, "The Rescue." This movie documents the child soldiering in Northern Uganda. We showed this film at Harbor OB Elementary, and about 50-60 people came!! It was a great success!!

The Purple Palace on Easter

Trip to Mexican Orphanage- 4.11.09
The 11th of April, about 8 of our church members went to the TJ Orphanage known as “The Purple Palace.” It was an amazing trip- we held an Easter egg hunt and explained to the kids what Easter was, and the tradition of the egg hunt. There are 100 kids who are orphans living at the "Purple Palace." It is an incredible place started by Connie and Tyler- amazing missionaries. OB Kite Festival- March 7, 2009







March 7, 2009. Harbor OB Mercy Ministries helped lead a children’s carnival at the OB Kite Festival. This was our first structured “Mercy Ministry” event. Went very well, had about 12 people from the church participate. Over 200 community members came out to the event!

March 18, 2009. We held our first official "Mercy Ministries" Meeting for Harbor OB. We met at "You're Mama's Mug" Cafe in OB had about 10 church members who came out. We also had amazing guests/visitors who showed up from "Mustard Seed Ministries." These people are a family from Oregon who sold all they own, bought an RV, and travel around the U.S. living and serving the homeless. They have been doing this for about 9 months and happend to stop in OB the night of our meeting, and share their story with us. Check them out at http://mustardseedministries.wordpress.com/

They also invited us to serve the homeless at a BBQ they were hosting on the beach at Saratoga Park the Friday after our meeting, March 20. Some of our members went out to this BBQ and it was a great time.

April 1, 2009. 2nd Mercy Ministry Meeting @ "You're Mama's Mug" Cafe in OB. Talked about starting a project called "Laundry Love" where we have coin containers in all the Harbor churches. We collect coins to help bring homeless to laundrymats in OB and do their laundry with them/form friendships with them.

We talked about the focus of Mercy Ministry events: to build community and intimacy among ourselves and OB residents, especially vulnerable ones. To open our eyes to global and local ways to share, serve and love.
